Noah & the Whale-Blue Skies

This is a song for anyone with a broken heart
This is a song for anyone who can’t get out of bed
I’ll do anything to be happy
Oh, ‘cos blue skies are coming
But I know that it’s hard

This is the last song that I write while still in love with you
This is the last song that I write while you’re even on my mind
‘Cos it’s time to leave those feelings behind

Oh, ‘cos blue skies are coming
But I know that it’s hard

I don’t think that it’s the end
But I know we can’t keep going
I don’t think that it’s the end
But I know we can’t keep going

But blue skies are coming
Oh yeah, blue skies are coming
Oh well, blue skies are coming
But I know that it’s hard

Architecture in Helsinki-Like a Call

all the cars down the bottom, windmill chasing, calling police so, so we’re placing weight on minds. ‘88 red sports car NW dated, counting the sleeps I’m counting, waiting, stalled inside. there’s no tyres to save our skins, they’re bald and old, their advice won’t change our plans through an old telescope for close up faces you’re cornering the fire it works in your favour, televised like the all night long at 3’o feeling you get in your legs when you’re dancing on the ceiling, friends of mine. And you change the beat disguised like a call to realise. you just made a pass in that

reflection, you’re fixing your hair or asking questions, you decide turn it around, the place is a fountain youth you’re squealing, offering advice that
sounds appealing, nervous fun ‘cept the cheating’s in your blood and the hardest word is love. Let’s not starve here today, none that behaviour, eating like a princess I’m gonna save you, stay at mine And we’re carving up the courses we’re not playing don’t want to
hear the swearwords you’re spraying undermined. I’m not revealing unless your feelings are long term.

The Boy Least Likely To-Paper Cuts

I bruise like a peach
I mumble when I speak
I’m in the gutter
Lookin at the stars
I’ve always been in love with you

I look tough enough
But if you hold me up to the light
You can see my broken heart
I’ve always been in love with you

They’re just paper cuts
I’ll sellotape them up
And bandage them with cotton wool and glue
Paper cuts
I shouldn’t beat myself up
Over little things the way i do

Nothing stays the same
I wish i could remain the colour
Of the cherry blossom tree
I’ve always been in love with you

I always used to leave before I went to sleep
But no I just pass out watching TV
I’ve always been in love with you

They’re just paper cuts
I’ll sellotape them up
And bandage them
With cotton wool and glue
They’re just paper cuts
I shouldn’t beat myself up
Over little things the way i do

Just be careful when you shine
Because if you throw a light
On something magical
It disappears

Paper cuts
I’ll sellotape them up
And bandage them
With cotton wool and glue
They’re just paper cuts
I shouldn’t beat myself up
Over little things the way i do

I bruise like a peach
I mumble when I speak
I’m in the gutter
Lookin at my scars
I’ve always been in love with

Phoenix-1901

Counting all different ideas drifting away
Past and present they don’t matter
Now the future’s sorted out
Watch her moving in elliptical patterns
Think it’s not what you say
What you say is way too complicated
For a minute thought I couldn’t tell how to fall out

It’s twenty seconds till the last call
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey
Lie down you know it’s easy
Like we did it over summer long

And I’ll be anything you ask and more
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
It’s not a miracle we needed
No I wouldn’t let you think so

Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it

Girlfriend, oh your girlfriend is drifting away
Past and present 1855 -1901 †
Watch them built up a meteor tower
Think it’s not gonna stay anyway
Think it’s overrated
For a minute thought I couldn’t tell how to fall out

It’s twenty seconds till the last call
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey
Lie down you know it’s easy
Like we did it over summer long

And I’ll be anything you ask and more
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
It’s not a miracle we needed
No I wouldn’t let you think so

Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it

Mumm Ra-Out of the Question

Lights, out of the darkness
What did you see?
What did you see?
And I, I don’t see the likeness
Im trying to see
Im trying to see

If you believe me look in my eyes
As you delight me dont’ breathe a sigh

Im caught in the reason
Im caught in the reason
You wanted a reason
You wanted a reason
For all the things I said
Its out of the question
Its out of the question
Right out of the question
Right out of the question
I’d rather stop being dead

This is the only thing I know
The writings on the wall
Its what we’re standing for
So I
Im getting to notice
I try to explain
I try to explain

If you believe me look in my eyes
As you delight me dont’ breathe a sigh

Im caught in the reason
Im caught in the reason
You wanted a reason
You wanted a reason
For all the things I said
Its out of the question
Its out of the question
Right out of the question
Right out of the question
I’d rather stop being….

Lights
Out of the darkness
What did you see?
What did you see?
And I
I don’t see the likeness
Im trying to see
Im trying to see……

Im caught in the reason
Im caught in the reason
You wanted a reason
You wanted a reason
For all the things I said
Its out of the question
Its out of the question
Right out of the question
Right out of the question
I’d rather stop being dead

This is the only thing I know

Sufjan Stevens-Decatur, or Round of Applause for Your Stepmother!

Our stepmom, we did everything to hate her
She took us down to the edge of Decatur
We saw the lion and the kangaroo take her
Down to the river where they caught a wild alligator

Sangamon River, it overflowed
It caused a mudslide on the banks of the operator
Civil War skeletons in their graves
They came up clapping in the spirit of the aviator

The sound of the engines and the smell of the grain
We go riding on the abolition grain train
Steven A. Douglas was a great debater
But Abraham Lincoln was the great emancipator

Chickenmobile with your rooster tail
I had my fill and I know how bad it feels
Stay awake and watch for the data
No small caterpillar, go congratulate her

Denominator, go Decatur, go Decatur
It’s the great I Am
Abominate her, go Decatur, why did we hate her?
It’s the great I Am

Denominator, go Decatur, anticipate her
It’s the great I Am
Appreciate her, appreciate her
Stand up and thank her

Stand up and thank her
It’s the great I Am
Stand up and thank her
It’s the great I Am
Stand up and thank her
It’s the great I Am
Stand up and thank her

Oh No! Oh My!-Walk in the Park

Nice day for a walk in the park.
Nice day for a drive through the city.
This world is a warm, sunny park.

Nice day for a talk with your girl.
Nice day for your shop to get busy.
This world is of no empty part.

Please don’t ask me all those questions I don’t know.
Please don’t ask me all those questions I don’t know.

And when you wake up early and the sun is shining,
are you ready for a day that’s comin’?
It’s comin’.

Nice day for a walk in the dark.
Nice day for a drive-by shooting.
This world has a warm, sunny heart.

Yeah.

Sean Hayes-Fucked Me Right Up

Don’t know that she knows
What it is she doing
Don’t know that she knows
How deep this will cut
Can’t believe you really think
We’ll make it through this oh
You fucked me right up
Just fucked me right up

All alone in a house that we were living
All that love just walked out the door
She’s off running around
With a brand new man, oh
You fucked me right up
Just fucked me right up

I got a long way to travel
With a heaviness taking hold
It takes along night
When you unravel at home

Don’t know that she knows
What it is she doing
Don’t know that she knows
We are throwing it all away
Tell me how you think
We’re gonna make it through this oh
You fucked me right up
Just fucked me right up

Don’t know that she knows
Or even if it matters
The cut’s been made
The dice have been thrown

What was our love worth
If it’s something we could gamble oh
You fucked me right up
Fucked me right up

Goodbye goodbye
Goodbye goodbye

Billie the Vision & the Dancers-A Man From Argentina

Jackson 5 from a car stereo singing,
“I want you back, want you back.”
Just a year ago I would have danced so crazy
and now I think I want to get back on that track.
If I only could relax in this confusion,
if I could dance with you the way you were used to.
Shake my hips to the revolution,
if I could be naive again.

Catherine says, “Mono’s coming on Friday
and I must be the happiest girl in the world.”
I’m thinking I wanna be you
I wanna be you
I wanna be you, you, you.

So send me a man from Argentina
to make me the happiest girl in the world.
So come to me on Friday, or Satruday, or Sunday,
but I can’t wait ‘til Monday.
So come to me on Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday,
but I can’t wait ‘til Monday.

Michael Walden from a car stereo singing,
“gimme, gimme, gimme all night long.”
If I only could perform I would have sung along
‘cause you know that it’s a top 5 song.

Maggie and Josephine say good things to me,
and good things have tended to come late.
So I hold my breath, there is a smile on my face,
and my face wasn’t made to wait.

Catherine says, “Mono’s coming on Friday
and I must be the happiest girl in the world.”
I’m thinking I wanna be you
I wanna be you
I wanna be you, you, you.

So send me a man from Argentina
to make me the happiest girl in the world.
So come to me on Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday,
but I can’t wait ‘til Monday.
So come to me on Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday,
but I can’t wait ‘til Monday.
So come to me on Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday,
but I can’t wait ‘til Monday.
So come to me on Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday,
but I can’t wait ‘til Monday.

Bon Iver-Blindsided

Bike down… down to the downtown
Down to the lockdown… boards, nails lye around

I crouch like a crow
Contrasting the snow
For the agony, I’d rather know
‘Cause blinded I am blindsided

Peek in… into the peer in
I’m not really like this… I’m probably plightless

I cup the window
I’m crippled and slow
For the agony
I’d rather know
‘Cause blinded I am blindsided

Would you really rush out for me now?

Taught line… down to the shoreline
The end of a blood line… the moon is a cold light

There’s a pull to the flow
My feet melt the snow
For the irony, i’d rather know
‘Cause blinded I was blindsided

‘Cause blinded I was blindsided

‘Cause blinded I was blindsided

Neutral Milk Hotel-Holland, 1945

The only girl I’ve ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening, 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she’s a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And now we ride the circus wheel
With your dark brother wrapped in white
Says it was good to be alive
But now he rides a comet’s flame
And won’t be coming back again
The Earth looks better from a star
That’s right above from where you are
He didn’t mean to make you cry
With sparks that ring and bullets fly
On empty rings around your heart
The world just screams and falls apart

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And here’s where your mother sleeps
And here is the room where your brothers were born
Indentions in the sheets
Where their bodies once moved but don’t move anymore
And it’s so sad to see the world agree
That they’d rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I’d want to keep white roses in their eyes

K’Naan-In the Beginning

Yiiiiaaaoowww!

So -
In the beginning there was hum from a poet whose pulse fell
Drum drum drum!
He would perform prayers and all till one day he heard a voice call
Come come come!
Suspicious he moved with vicious caution
Dismisses, he thinks it’s a little off
People get held back by the voice inside them

Yo -
The voice said I’m poised to speak inside you
Rejoice and please let me invite you
To evil, greed and lies too

Yeah -
Confusing days he moved in ways he soon became a kuuni
Boom boom boom
And knock on his door his heart is no more
And knock on his door his soul is no more

La la la la- yeah
La la la la- that was in the beginning
La la la la- as the story goes on
La la la la-

So so so -
The poet’s got a proposal
He would always hope but never know
What it feels to be free

He would be the frozen imposed as the chosen on all those opposing
But he would be greedy
That’s got him there
He’s power hungry and proud too
People don’t care, people just scared
People don’t care, people just pray

La la la la- yeah
La la la la- that was in the beginning
La la la la- there was a hum
La la la la- and things change
La la la la-

Yeah, yeah, yeah -
Say -
It’s better to light a candle than to curse the dark
In the eyes of the youth there are question marks
Like freedom
Freedom for the mind and soul
We don’t see them
See them for their worth at all
That’s why we lead them
Lead them to these wars and what is it we feed them
Feed them our impurities and who it is we treat them
Treat them like the enemy humanity will need them
Need them like the blood we spill and where freedom

Freedom for the hearts we fill
Mislead them
They hunger for the love we give
But we cheat them
The cops beat them when all he wants is his freedom
So they defeat them
Whatever spirit he’s got beat them
And they teach them that the rest of the world don’t need him
And he believes it’s a disease that he’s heathen
Put up your fists if all you want is freedom
Put up your fists if all you want is -

La la la la- That was in the beginning
La la la la- And things change
La la la la-

Yeah, yeah, yeah -
And we keep holding on
And we keep being strong
And we keep going on
And on and on and on

And we keep holding on
And we keep being strong
And we keep going on
And on and on and on

Volcano Choir-Island, IS

On with your home, the song said it all to the sky
With a lone catapult and a song gently put to the side
And the tones he would push and the songs he would push to the side
when it all went to fuck in the snow that gets pushed to the side
Well your heart is a bush and it’s talking to —with some size
When you already put all of the soup inside
They were all really smooshed with a calm steady push to the side
All that your heart finds
Wrong with your own wife

Sign up all your relatives
Only your heart would mind
And the serpentine

I’m the reaper of bonds
Called the arrival
Tear into the night
(???)
“Harder”, said your boy

Conserve it with an omelette
And you’re on it with the carpet
And you solved it, said you called it
Set your orbit, said you cough it
Said it’s often that you’re oh fits
And your old tits on your hard drive

Frightened Rabbit-My Backwards Walk

i’m working on my backwards walk
walking with no shoes or socks
and the time rewinds to the end of may
i wish we’d never met then met today

i’m working on my faults and cracks
filling in the blanks and gaps
and when i write them out they don’t make sense
i need you to pencil in the rest

i’m working on drawing a straight line
and i’ll draw until i get one right
it’s bold and dark girl, can’t you see
i done drawn a line between you and me

i’m working on erasing you
just don’t have the proper tools
i get hammered, forget that you exist
there’s no way i’m forgetting this

i’m working hard on walking out
shoes keep sticking to the ground
my clothes won’t let me close the door
these trousers seem to love your floor

i been working on my backwards walk
there’s nowhere else for me to go
except back to you just one last time
say yes before i change my mind

say yes before i…
you’re the shit and i’m knee-deep in it
